Behind the Film

Words are not my language, I speak through my lens - IDR

My name is Elile Kebede, and I founded Insidethedarkroom in 2022. My work centers on capturing real moments through a thoughtful, story-driven lens, with creative documentation that highlights people in their natural environments.

I began shooting film in an unexpected way during a study abroad experience in Morocco. After losing digital footage due to technology issues, I became drawn to the intentionality and permanence of film. What started as curiosity quickly became my preferred medium, and l've continued to shoot film over digital ever since.

I've been fortunate to have my work featured in galleries in Washington, DC and New York City, with additional exhibitions planned for the upcoming year. Across all projects, my goal remains consistent: to create images that feel authentic, emotionally resonant, and true to the subject.

I believe the strongest images come from trust and presence allowing people and spaces to exist as they are, while preserving them with care.
